4 x 4 Construction (Mortise and Tenon) Chicken Coops Photo Gallery

Some of our Craftsman Coops and custom chicken coops are constructed with 4 inch by 4 inch posts and mortise and tenon joinery.

Being that we are woodworkers, we like to employ this technique on some of our larger chicken coops.

The mortise and tenon joint is ancient and dates back 7,000 years. It’s been used for centuries by woodworker because of the joint’s combination of superior strength and simplicity. It’s most often used when one piece of wood is joined to the other at a 90° angle.
