Predator Apron

Carolina Coops knows the importance of keeping your flock safe. It’s why coop security is such a high priority for us with all the materials we use.

We strongly advise that anyone with a chicken coop use a predator apron to protect your chickens from burrowing animals. We use green PVC coated 16 gauge steel welded wire rolled fencing that is 2 foot wide with 2” x 3” rectangular mesh opening. It is readily available at hardware stores.

Please note: Predator aprons are only included in our turn-key service. They do not come as part of your coop you purchase for assembly.

The video will explain how you can install your own predator apron.

Carolina Coops installs the predator apron only on turn-key service for our clients. We pneumatically attach the wire fencing with 1.25 inch stainless steel staples at the base of the coop all the way around the perimeter. The cost is approximately $6.50 per linear foot for the materials and installation.

Carolina Coops-predator apron installation

If a burrowing animal wants to get in to your chicken coop, they will start digging at the base of the coop, they will not back up 2 feet and start digging. The predator apron prevents any diggers from getting inside your coop.

The installation of the predator apron can easily be done as a DIY project, even if you do not have pneumatic tools. We cannot stress enough the importance of installing a predator apron to keep your chickens safe from predators.
